After being kicked out of the wealthy family - Chapter 4: Sever the Relationship, Don’t Regret It

Lin Shenghai looked at Lin Wu with a complex expression. When he believed she was his biological daughter, he had genuinely cared for her. But Lin Wu had always been unruly, distant with everyone, and never once had she called him "Dad."  

She constantly got into fights, lagged behind in her studies, and was hard to manage. How could such a girl represent the Lin family without bringing shame? Thankfully, Lin Wu wasn’t truly his daughter. Now that they’d found Qianqian, a refined and obedient young woman who excelled in everything, Lin Shenghai felt assured.

Resolved, he said, “From now on, you are no longer part of the Lin family. Did you hear that clearly?”

Lin Wu stood quietly, shadows flickering in her dark eyes.

“That’s it? Are you done?”

Lin Jiangbai scowled at her defiant expression and added, “If anything happens to you in the future, you can’t blame us or cause trouble using our family name!”

Hearing this, Lin Qian could barely contain her excitement. From now on, she’d be the sole daughter of the Lin family, with boundless opportunities ahead. However, she feigned concern. “Dad, Mom, Brother,” she said softly, “After all, she’s been with you for so long. Isn’t it a bit harsh? Maybe she could still stay with us. I’ll even call her ‘sister’ from now on.”

The Lin family shook their heads, but before they could respond, Lin Wu spoke up.

“No need. They aren’t my real family, and you and I share no blood. Don’t call me ‘sister’; you’re aiming too high.”

Lin Qian’s face darkened, her composure cracking.

Lin Jiangchuan, who adored Lin Qian, immediately defended her, saying, “Qianqian is now the true daughter of the Lin family. You don’t stand a chance against her!”

Fang Ruling, feeling a deep affection for Lin Qian, chimed in angrily, “How dare you disrespect Qianqian? Who do you think you are?!”

“To be clear, I did my due diligence as your mother. I looked into your biological parents. They drove your mother to the hospital in a rusty old car, disgraced! So poor, they couldn’t even pay the hospital fees—they just left. That’s your background,” she sneered, looking at Lin Wu with disdain. “With such origins, you’re not even fit to carry Qianqian’s shoes.”

Lin Wu’s fingers tightened at this mention of her biological family.

Lin Shenghai turned to Fang Ruling, “Why tell her all this? With her attitude, she’ll only be ungrateful.”

Lin Jiangbai nodded. “Exactly, Mom. Don’t waste your breath.”

Lin Wu sneered, prompting Lin Shenghai to ask, “What’s so funny?”

Lin Wu’s expression hardened, her patience exhausted. “As you said, sever the relationship and don’t look back. Just don’t regret it.”

Silence blanketed the room before the Lin family burst out laughing.

“Regret?” Lin Jiangchuan mocked, laughing so hard his eyes watered. “Lin Wu, open your eyes—this is Beicheng, not your backwater town! With the Lin family’s influence here, cutting ties means you’ll be the one who regrets it!”

Feigning politeness, Lin Qian said, “Second Brother, maybe we shouldn’t be so harsh.”

Lin Jiangchuan waved her off. “We’re just making sure she doesn’t come crawling back in the future!”

“Exactly. Qianqian, not everyone can enter the Lin family anymore,” Lin Jiangbai added, thinking of all the future prospects now open to them.

Lin Qian took her chance to pile on. “But it’s late, and Lin Wu has just arrived. She may not have anywhere to stay. Perhaps we could talk about this tomorrow, and she could return home with us tonight.”

“That’s not possible,” Fang Ruling replied. “We’ve turned her room into a storage space for Qianqian’s things. With Qianqian here, our home is full of good fortune; we don’t need anyone bringing bad luck back.”

Lin Shenghai nodded approvingly, looking at Lin Qian with pride.

Blushing, Lin Qian murmured, “Mom and Dad, you’re exaggerating.”

“No exaggeration at all!” Lin Jiangbai replied warmly. The rest walked around Lin Wu and left without a second glance.

Watching them go, Lin Wu’s gaze was ice-cold. She pressed her eyebrows together and turned to leave. It was just as well; she had no desire to return to the Lin household.

As she stepped out, Manager Song was returning after seeing off the Lin family. When he saw Lin Wu, a sense of unease flickered within him. How could someone with her poise and demeanor fit the disparaging descriptions the Lin family had given?

Still, he quickly reminded himself of his obligations. She had offended someone important to his boss, after all. Dismissing his thoughts, he walked past her.

Just as they crossed paths, he heard her voice, low and steady: “Does your boss know about your behavior?”

Manager Song froze, his heart skipping a beat as he looked back at Lin Wu. “What do you mean by that?”

Lin Wu’s eyes were steady and calm as she replied, “I’ll remember you.”

With that, she hailed a taxi and left.

Manager Song stood there, shaken, as her car pulled away. There was something about her—an aura that didn’t align with the Lin family’s narrative. Feeling an unexpected pang of regret, he took out his phone and messaged his boss: “Boss, the Lin family has left Shenggui. But there were two daughters—are you certain which one you were referring to?”

The response was instant.

“Are you blind? It’s the one who just returned from the Lin family’s celebration!”

“That’s my elder niece. Treat her with utmost respect. If she’s wronged, you’ll answer to me!”

Manager Song breathed a sigh of relief, realizing he hadn’t made a mistake.

But a question lingered in his mind: how had his boss, with such discerning taste, taken an interest in Miss Lin Qian? The girl’s demeanor didn’t seem to fit.

Shaking his head, Manager Song decided not to press further.
