 Chapter 5: Uncovering the Adoption Scene

At the event…

"[Xiao Yanyan, I want some water.]"

Immediately, Jiang Xian took a bottle, filling it for the dog who had accidentally knocked over his water bowl.

"[Xiao Yanyan, can I go out and play?]"

Jiang Xian gently patted his head, reassuring him, “No, there are too many people here. It's far too dangerous.”

Amidst the noise, Jiang Xian patiently tended to the small, confused, and frightened animals, calming them. Whenever a potential adopter showed interest, she introduced them to the animals.

To one adopter, she explained, “Xiaohua has been abused before. She's shy and may not do well if there are other pets at home. How about this cat with the unique fur? She's very affectionate.”

“You don’t like multi-colored cats? Actually, they're quite beautiful, not ugly at all. Look how lovely she is.”

“This one’s called Diandian. He’s Xuanxuan’s dog. He’s a bit of a foodie but doesn’t eat dog food. He's easy to care for. If you have a dog permit, we can do the adoption here, and his vaccinations are already done... Yes, come here and fill out the information, thank you…”

As Jiang Xian was speaking with an adopter, she suddenly heard a mechanical voice announcing a task.

“[Animal abuse detected in the area. A random task has been triggered: rescue abused animals and seek justice for the victims. Random rewards will be given upon completion of the task.]”

Jiang Xian paused, turning to the adopter and apologizing, “I’m sorry.”

She quickly asked her colleagues to help with the adopter.

The adoption event was held in an open area near a shopping mall. Though not large, there were a lot of people. Jiang Xian scanned the area until she spotted a trembling puppy in the corner.

If she remembered correctly, this puppy was named Ah Shu. He had been abandoned by his previous owner after having his vocal cords cut. While rummaging through garbage in a trash bin, he had been struck by a passing drunk with a beer bottle, leaving blood everywhere. In the end, three high school students studying late at night rushed him to the hospital.

Ah Shu opened his mouth helplessly, but no sound came from his throat.

There was a young, chubby boy crouching in front of the cage. He looked around cautiously, and when he thought no one was watching, he pulled out a folding knife from his pocket and stabbed Ah Shu inside the cage!

Jiang Xian ran over and shoved him to the ground, shouting, “What do you think you’re doing?!”

The boy fell to the ground, his hands scratched by the gravel, and he began to wail loudly, “Waaah!”

His sharp cries attracted the attention of a plump woman on the phone nearby. She rushed over, and when she saw her son injured, she flew into a rage, lunging at Jiang Xian and grabbing her hair, “You nasty woman! How dare you push my son!”

Jiang Xian was taken aback, wincing from the pain.

But she wasn’t about to back down. Grabbing the woman’s hair with her other hand, she pulled even harder. Though she was barely half the woman’s size, Jiang Xian moved quickly, pinching her in strategic spots, gradually gaining the upper hand.

“Woof woof woof—”

“Meow meow—”

Suddenly, all the cats and dogs in the cages erupted in barks and meows, drawing everyone’s attention.

When Jiang Yiheng saw his sister fighting, he dropped his pen and rushed over.

With help from others, they finally managed to separate them. The plump woman shrieked hysterically, “This is outrageous! A vet is hitting people! This is insane, and this animal is biting people! I’m calling the police, I’m calling the police!”

“Fine, call them! If you don’t, I will!” Jiang Xian shouted angrily, “We’re hosting an adoption event here, and your son stabbed an animal with a knife. I haven’t even begun to deal with you yet, and you’re already complaining?”

“You’re lying! My son would never do that!”

“Open your eyes and see, your son pulled this knife out of his own pocket!”

“Ah Shu is hurt!” cried one of the veterinary clinic staff, rushing to open the cage. Ah Shu, who had been stabbed, silently whimpered in pain as blood pooled beneath him.

Kneeling down, Qin Feng examined him and found multiple stab wounds on Ah Shu's back.

Even with the evidence, the plump woman stubbornly shouted, “Who says my son did it? Do you have any proof? You bring this pack of monsters here, and they bite my son. You should pay for this!”

Her words immediately sparked anger among the crowd.

There was a sign saying "Adoption Event," and those who came to the event were all pet lovers. Upon seeing the spoiled child harm the small animals with a knife, they couldn’t hold back and all began confronting her. In the scuffle, the boy fell to the ground, got stepped on several times, and started wailing loudly.

The scene was chaotic.

Initially, Jiang Yiheng tried to hold Jiang Xian back, but she suddenly pushed him aside, charged into the crowd, and kicked the plump woman several times amid the chaos.

Jiang Yiheng’s expression collapsed as he witnessed it all.

When the police finally arrived from the nearby station, the situation had spiraled completely out of control. With difficulty, they restored order, putting everyone involved in police cars and taking them to the station.

“You witch, I’m suing you, I’m suing you!” The plump woman screamed at the police station, shouting, “You need to stand up for me! This woman hit people and… she let that animal bite my son…”

“Fine, let’s sue! I want to sue your son for deliberately harming animals and sue you for defamation! I’ll go to your son’s school with a sign, telling everyone what he did!”

“You—you…” the plump woman gasped, pointing at Jiang Xian.

Jiang Xian stared back, her large eyes saying, “I’ll see this through to the end.”

Jiang Yiheng, who had accompanied them, quickly stopped his sister from talking and explained everything in detail.

The plump woman shrieked, “That’s nonsense! My son didn’t do that!”

Jiang Yiheng handed over a USB drive, “This is the surveillance footage from the event. Our adoption activities are legally organized. The animals available for adoption have been chosen specifically because they aren’t aggressive. The stabbed dog had multiple injuries. I also have the folding knife. I’d like to request a fingerprint analysis. All the costs will be covered by our veterinary hospital.”

At that moment, a policewoman stated, “Upon examination, we found no traces of any animal bites on the child.”

Upon hearing this, the plump woman shrieked in outrage at the station, “Impossible! My son was crying so hard! He must have been bitten!”
