"Wuwu."

Mr. Lin’s voice brought Lin Wu back from her thoughts.

He spoke with guilt in his voice: "Granddaughter, I’m so sorry."

Lin Wu replied calmly, "You have nothing to apologize for."

"No, I shouldn’t have asked you to return to Beicheng on behalf of Shenghai and the others. If you hadn’t come back, you wouldn’t have had to endure that humiliation last night!" Mr. Lin said emotionally.

He had always known that his granddaughter was proud. How could she tolerate being embarrassed in public like that?

Lin Wu remained composed. "You’re overthinking it, Grandpa. I’ve never taken Lin Shenghai, Fang Ruling, or the others seriously. Their actions don’t bother me."

But Mr. Lin was unconvinced. 

When he lived abroad, he would often see her standing before the cabinet in the living room, gazing at the family photo of Lin Shenghai, Fang Ruling, and their two sons. She would stand there, lost in thought.

Deep down, he knew she still yearned for harmony with her family.

Yet, things were so tense now, and his daughter-in-law’s harsh words earlier must have hurt Wuwu deeply. Even though he wanted to mend their relationship, he couldn't bring himself to say it.

Fearing he might upset Lin Wu, Mr. Lin changed the topic. "Ru Ling said she didn’t ask you to come back to the Lin family home last night. Where did you stay?"

"Yu Jiadi Garden," Lin Wu replied.

Mr. Lin’s eyes widened. "Really?"

Though he had only been in Beicheng for a year, he knew that Yu Jiadi Garden was in a prime area where only the elite resided. Money alone couldn’t get you a place there.

The Lin family had been striving for over a decade, yet they were still far from even touching the threshold of Yu Jiadi Garden.

How could his granddaughter be living there?

"Really," Lin Wu confirmed.

Mr. Lin’s emotions were mixed. He suspected she was only saying this to reassure him.

With a sigh, he said tenderly, "Wuwu, even if you weren’t a member of the Lin family, you’ll always be my beloved granddaughter. Grandpa cherishes you the most."

Lin Wu’s gaze softened with a hint of confusion. She didn’t understand why he was being so sentimental.

She nodded. "I’ll be living in Beicheng from now on. If you need anything, just give me a call."

Mr. Lin forced a smile. "I know my health isn’t great and I may not have much time left. Wuwu, don’t worry too much about me. As long as you’re living well, Grandpa will be at peace."

Lin Wu didn’t want to dwell on this, so she said, "The spices I brought are good for your health. Remember to ask the nurse to light them every day."

This wasn’t the first time she’d brought him these spices.

Whenever he burned them before, Mr. Lin felt noticeably better and had grown fond of using them. Still, he worried. "Good things aren’t cheap, Wuwu. Did these cost a lot?"

Lin Wu said lightly, "I made them myself. They’re not expensive, just a bit time-consuming."

Feeling reassured, Mr. Lin asked her to open the bottom drawer of his bedside table.

Lin Wu followed his instructions and saw a bank card inside.

"This is the money I’ve saved over the years—one hundred thousand yuan. It’s all for you. You just finished your college entrance exams and will be starting university soon. You’ll need money for expenses. This should cover your four years in college."

Lin Wu replied, "Keep it for yourself. I have money."

"What money could you have at your age? Take it."

Mr. Lin insisted, so Lin Wu had no choice but to accept it.

With a gentle smile, Mr. Lin continued, "I know I couldn’t give you much before, only a thousand yuan in pocket money each month. Now that you’re grown, take this to buy yourself some nice clothes. Grandpa notices that other girls like cosmetics, so buy some for yourself too. Don’t deprive yourself. My Wuwu is beautiful, and she’ll look stunning dressed up..."

His words trailed off as he grew tired and started to feel sleepy.

Lin Wu helped him lie down.

"Wuwu, don’t resent your parents. They just… haven’t lived with you for a long time, so there’s some unfamiliarity," Mr. Lin murmured weakly.

Lin Wu gave a soft hum, and once he drifted off to sleep, she sat in the ward for a while longer.

A gentle knock on the door broke the silence as the attending doctor entered and informed her quietly that the new doctor had arrived.

Lin Wu cast one last glance at her grandfather, then stood up and followed the doctor outside.

"The new doctor’s surname is Bo. He’s in the dean’s office now," the doctor said as he led the way.

Lin Wu was startled at the mention of the name "Bo," her brows knitting slightly.

When they arrived at the dean’s office, the attending doctor knocked. After a voice from within granted permission, he opened the door.

The doctor stepped aside to let Lin Wu enter.

Lin Wu took a few steps inside, then stopped in her tracks.

In the spacious office, the balding, round-bellied dean stood respectfully by the sofa, facing a man seated with an air of authority.

Even seated, it was clear the man was tall and well-built.

With broad shoulders and a slim waist, his white coat accentuated his physique, giving it an effortlessly crisp look.

As Lin Wu looked over, he raised his eyes, locking his gaze with hers.

With a slight smirk, he raised an eyebrow. "Are you the person Dean Wu invited me to meet?"

Dean Wu quickly introduced her. "This is Miss Lin, a major shareholder of our hospital. Many of the foreign medical equipment we have were donated by her."

Turning to Lin Wu, he added, "Miss Lin, this is Dr. Bo, an esteemed expert from Beijing. His medical skills are unmatched, with a 100% success rate in surgeries. His reputation in the field is formidable..."

Before Dean Wu could finish, the man on the sofa rose and walked around the coffee table toward Lin Wu.

He extended a hand. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Bo Yuting."

Lowering his voice so only she could hear, he added, "Little neighbor, fate sure has a funny way."

It was him—the owner of Villa No. 32 in Yu Jiadi Garden, the man she encountered last night.

And with that, Lin Wu realized his true identity.

In all of Beijing, there was only one prominent family with the surname Bo—the Bo family, one of the five great families alongside the Lu family.

There was only one person in the Bo family known to practice medicine.

Bo Jiuye.

While the Lu family’s Lu Gui Banquet was renowned, no one could overshadow the brilliance of Bo Jiuye, Bo Yuting.

At just thirteen, he took control of the Bo family’s empire, demonstrating sharp business acumen and a knack for outmaneuvering even the most cunning figures in the corporate world.

He entered Peking University at sixteen, studying three majors simultaneously, graduating in two years before earning a master’s and doctorate abroad, excelling in all.

By twenty, he enlisted in the military, serving for three years, where he became a talent personally scouted by central officials.

Yet, for reasons unknown, Bo Yuting retired, disappearing from the public eye for a year.

When he resurfaced, he shunned business, politics, and the military, handing over the Bo family’s affairs to his fourth uncle. For the last three years, he’d been practicing medicine.
